Adani Group Chairman Becomes Founding Member of Gelephu Mindfulness City
Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, joins Gelephu Mindfulness City as a founding member, reinforcing Bhutan’s values-led development vision and long-term commitment to mindful, sustainable growth.
The Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority has announced that Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, has joined the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) as a Founding Member, marking another significant milestone in Bhutan’s values-led development journey.
According to the GMC Authority, Mr. Adani’s association reflects a shared commitment to Bhutan’s philosophy of development rooted in purpose and balance. With decades of experience in large-scale infrastructure spanning energy, logistics, and connectivity, alongside leadership in renewable and sustainable systems, his expertise is seen as complementing GMC’s ambition to build future-ready infrastructure while safeguarding both natural and human capital.
A Vision Rooted in Purpose
The Gelephu Mindfulness City has emerged from the vision of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and is widely regarded as a global proposition for mindful prosperity amid growing global uncertainties and geostrategic challenges. GMC seeks to offer an alternative path of development, where Bhutanese values of spirituality and harmony with nature are integrated with innovation, technology, and economic vibrancy.
His Majesty the King has often emphasised that development must be purposeful and deeply rooted in values, observing that “the measure of success lies not in scale alone, but in whether progress preserves harmony between people, nature, and time.” This principle continues to underpin GMC’s long-term, mindful approach to development.
Strengthening Bhutan–Adani Partnerships
The announcement also builds on the strong and growing partnership between Bhutan and the Adani Group, notably the collaboration with Druk Green Power Corporation to jointly develop 5,000 MW of hydropower capacity in Bhutan. This partnership reinforces shared commitments to clean energy, sustainability, and long-term growth, with a Memorandum of Understanding signed at the Kuenrey of Tashichho Dzong.
Commenting on his role, Mr. Adani said, “Bhutan has shown the world that development guided by values creates lasting strength. Gelephu Mindfulness City is a profound and timely vision, and I am honoured to support an initiative that places human well-being, nature, and long-term thinking at the heart of progress.”
In another statement, he added, “Deeply privileged to be a founding member of the Gelephu Mindfulness City. Indeed, a visionary initiative of His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck that reflects Bhutan's enduring commitment to mindful and sustainable development. In a significant step for our energy partnership, we advanced key milestones by signing an MoU for 5,000 MW of hydropower and officially commencing the 570 MW Wangchhu Hydro Electricity Project.”
Expressing appreciation for the leadership present, he said, “I am sincerely grateful for the presence of Hon'ble Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay at the ceremony to mark this occasion. We will continue to strengthen this partnership rooted in sustainability, trust and long-term value.”
Always a delight to return to Bhutan.
