Hong Kong’s Golden Couple Finally Take Their Wedding Photos In Bhutan’s Timeless Beauty

Liza Wang and Law Kar Ying fulfil a 16-year wish as they capture their first wedding portraits in Bhutan, complete with traditional attire and a heartfelt blessing.

Sixteen years after tying the knot, Hong Kong icons Liza Wang and Law Kar Ying have finally taken the wedding photos they never got to have — and they chose Bhutan as the place to mark the moment.

The beloved couple registered their marriage in Las Vegas back in May 2009, but life and work took over, and formal wedding portraits simply never happened. Now, at 78 and 79, the two veteran artistes have fulfilled that long-standing wish while filming Hong Kong broadcaster TVB’s new travel variety show, Take Liza To The World, which premieres on 24 November.

A Surprise Bhutanese Wedding Photoshoot

During their trip to Bhutan earlier this month, the production team surprised them with a deeply meaningful gesture. They arranged for the couple to don traditional Bhutanese attires, complete with a special blessing from a local monk — turning what was meant to be a light-hearted travel segment into a heartfelt milestone.

Law, in his usual humorous charm, remarked in the show’s trailer: “I think we should take our wedding photos while we are still young and looking good, just to have a memento.” He added that he had once considered going to South Korea for the photoshoot, “but I didn’t expect to come to Bhutan and suddenly... maybe I talked to the production team, so they arranged it secretly.”

A Love Story Three Decades Strong

Wang and Law, long regarded as one of Hong Kong’s most enduring celebrity couples, have shared more than three decades together. Their relationship began in 1989 after meeting through Hong Kong’s Cantonese opera circles, and they stood by each other through their respective battles with cancer in the early 2000s — a testament to their resilience and devotion.

An Unforgettable Blessing in Bhutan

On the show, Wang — affectionately known as “Big Sister” for her stature in the entertainment industry — shared: “He always asked me when we should take our wedding photos.”

She added that the Bhutan experience surpassed anything she’d imagined: “In the end, I never expected us to wear traditional Bhutanese attire, receive a blessing from the master and have so many villagers join us in celebration. It was quite an unforgettable experience.”

The couple’s spontaneous Bhutanese wedding photoshoot has since captured the hearts of fans, adding yet another chapter to their remarkable love story — one that continues to inspire audiences across the region.

Bhutan’s Quiet Allure for Hong Kong’s Biggest Stars

Liza Wang and Law Kar Ying are not the only Hong Kong superstars who have made memories in Bhutan for an intimate chapter of their love story. Carina Lau and Tony Leung — one of Asia’s most celebrated power couples — also marked their union in Bhutan, holding their famously private wedding ceremony in COMO Uma Paro in 2008. Their choice of Bhutan spoke volumes: a sanctuary of serenity, tradition, and spiritual depth, offering exactly the kind of quiet, sacred space where love can be honoured away from the spotlight.
