Sixth SAARC Ministerial Meeting

At the Meeting, the SAARC Member States adopted the Colombo Declaration.

The Sixth SAARC meeting of Health Ministers, Health Secretaries and Government Officials ended today (29.07.2017) in Colombo, Sri Lanka. At the Meeting, the SAARC Member States adopted the Colombo Declaration.

The Colombo Declaration broadly consists of 10 key messages on Nutrition, sanitation, Anti-Microbial Resistance, Non-Communicable Diseases, preparedness for emerging and re-emerging diseases, Universal Health Coverage, strengthening regulatory system in health, vector-borne disease, burden of communicable diseases, climate change and disaster, R&D, Traditional Medicines in modern healthcare and the cross border health issues.

On the sidelines of the 6th SAARC Health Ministers Meeting held in Colombo, Sri- Lanka, took the opportunity to visit Kotelawala Defence University where a warm reception was accorded by the Vice Chancellor Rear Admiral Rajath Ranasinghe and the faculty members of the university.Hon. Lyonpo Tandin Wangchuk took a tour of the campus and the various facilities available at the university and discussed on possibilities of increasing the medical student’s slots and other disciplines for Bhutan.

Hon. Health Minister even met and interacted with Bhutanese medical students studying in the university. There are currently 43 of them.

Hon.Lyonpo Tandin Wangchuk led the delegation from Bhutan from 27-29 July 2017.
