Chencho is an award-winning journalist based in Punakha with 17 years of experience covering crime, politics, the judiciary, women’s issues, and the environment. A senior journalist at Kuensel, her work has also appeared in international outlets like BBC Monitoring, Nikkei, The Diplomat, The New York Times, and The Wire. In 2024, she was named Female Journalist of the Year and became the first Bhutanese female journalist to reach Everest Base Camp. Her reporting has earned multiple national awards, including for political, environmental, crime, and disability stories. Chencho holds a BA in English Literature and Media Studies, a diploma in Photography and New Media, and is a fellow of both the Alfred Friendly Press and Asian Journalism Fellowships.
