Bhutan Won Two Prestigious Tourism Awards in 2024

The accolades include International Wellness Destination for Paro at the Travel + Leisure India’s Best Awards 2024 and the Runner-Up for Favourite Overseas Destination at the Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Travel Awards 2024. These awards underscore Bhutan’s growing reputation as a world-class destination for both wellness and immersive travel experiences.

An official from the Royal Bhutanese Embassy in New Delhi accepted the honours on behalf of Bhutan's Department of Tourism, reflecting the country's commitment to promoting sustainable and authentic travel.

Bhutan is gaining recognition as a wellness destination

The Travel + Leisure award acknowledges Paro as a standout destination offering exceptional wellness opportunities, aligning with Bhutan's broader ethos of promoting holistic well-being and harmony with nature.

Paro is a picturesque valley town in Bhutan, known for its stunning landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and spiritual significance. Located at an altitude of 2,250 metres, Paro is home to Bhutan’s only international airport and serves as a gateway for visitors. The town seamlessly blends traditional Bhutanese charm with modern hospitality, offering a serene environment perfect for rejuvenation and exploration.

  1. Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest)

  2. Paro Dzong (Rinpung Dzong)
A fortress-monastery with intricate architecture and historical significance, it is a centre for religious festivals like Paro Tshechu.

  3. National Museum of Bhutan (Ta Dzong)
Once a watchtower, this museum showcases Bhutan’s rich history, art, and cultural artefacts.

  4. Chele La Pass
The highest motorable pass in Bhutan, offering panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Mount Jomolhari.

  5. Drukgyel Dzong

Paro’s charm lies in its balance between natural beauty and cultural richness, making it an unforgettable destination for travellers.

On the other hand, the Condé Nast Traveller award is based on a rigorous two-month global voting process, where readers selected Bhutan as a top contender for its unique and memorable travel offerings.

As the Runner-Up in the Favourite Overseas Destination category, Bhutan's achievement highlights the nation’s success in attracting discerning travellers who value meaningful experiences, cultural richness, and environmental stewardship. These awards serve as a testament to Bhutan’s growing appeal on the global stage and its dedication to sustainable tourism that preserves its natural beauty and cultural heritage.
