Clove Bistro - Keeps You Coming Back!

The Clove has some amazing dishes, although the portions are not huge. This bistro makes a nice place to meet friends or to have a meeting. We also appreciate the fact that the service was efficient, and food was served in a timely manner. The Clove is definitely on our list of restaurants to return to.

Feel like having a tender steak? Or maybe some delectable wontons instead. Don’t worry, because The Clove Bistro has you covered!

Located in Changlam Square, The Clove is easy to find with ample parking nearby. There is a variety of non-spicy and vegetarian dishes, but there are more vegetarian appetizers than mains, so an easy option for vegetarians is to order a few appetizers and then some rice in order to feel satiated.

The ambience is cosy and there is a “sun room” area available, which is equally warm in the day and night due to a very strong heater.

What We Tried

Let’s start with appetisers! We tried the Assorted Crispy Mushrooms (225 nu.) and the Braised Chicken Wontons (380nu.). Both were good, the mushrooms were served in a brown sauce I would liken it to a slightly spicy Szechuan gravy.

Next up, the Chicken Wontons. The filling was flavourful, and the skin was silkier than the typical momo skin. The wontons were served in a brown sauce that paired well with the Vegetable Fried Rice (250 nu.). Although the colours of the fried rice are aesthetically pleasing, it, unfortunately, did not taste as good as it looked.

However, the Beef Teriyaki with Spinach and Mashed Potatoes (350 nu.) made up for it. The beef was tender, served in thinly sliced pieces and the marinade was sweet. The only critique that can be made is that the consistency of the mashed potatoes was lumpy on the second visit.

The Wok Tossed Bok Choy (200 nu.) was average, but it is hard to go wrong with such a simple dish. The leaves of the Bok Choy were, however, curiously missing every time we visited. The portion size was also somewhat small, so we would recommend having this as a side dish rather than a main on its own.

Next up, the Wok Tossed Garlic Prawns (480 nu.) The portions were small, so we would recommend having the prawns as a side rather than the main course, but the garlic had a wonderful smoky aftertaste and the batter was crispy.

Dessert

We tried the Brownie with Ice Cream (250 nu.) for dessert. A portion for two, the brownie makes a decadent finale for your meal. A classic pairing, the walnut brownie was slightly crisp, but not burnt. The vanilla ice cream was served in a pastry shell, which we found interesting. The best part about it is that everything on the plate itself was edible!

To conclude, The Clove has some amazing dishes, although the portions are not huge. This bistro makes a nice place to meet friends or to have a meeting.

We also appreciate the fact that the service was efficient, and food was served in a timely manner. The Clove is definitely on our list of restaurants to return to.
