Jean-Pierre Roc-Roussey, a French Postwar & Contemporary Painter holds an ongoing exhibition at the Opera Gallery in Singapore in honour of the Kingdom of Bhutan. Various artworks depicting the unique Bhutanese culture are on display.

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck was present at the event, where His Majesty shared his vision about The Gelephu Mindfulness City to the attendees.

"We joined our friends at the Opera Gallery for a dinner with His Majesty the King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. Adorning the walls were works specially curated, inspired by Bhutan by artist Jean Pierre Roc Roussey.

Bhutan is one of the last biodiversity hotspots in the world, with 70% of the country covered in forest. His Majesty shared about The Gelephu Mindfulness City and his vision of an economic hub as well as a place so different , it will naturally draw people to it. The dynamic ecosystem, to its inhabitable bridges , power dam and cultural and spiritual centre to East meets West medicine.

We look forward to His Majesty’s next visit and to the progress of this incredibly meaningful project!" - Ng Kok Song's Facebook

About Gelephu Mindfulness City

In the heart of Bhutan, a small yet significant revolution is taking place in the form of Gelephu Mindfulness City. The city located at the south of Bhutan is set to be an economic hub for the Land of the Thunder Dragon.

On December 17th 2023, during Bhutan's 166th National Day address, His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck announced that the city would be Bhutan’s economic hub – an opportunity to capitalize on the economic corridor linking South Asia to Southeast Asia. Bhutan will utilize the land connection from Gelephu or Samdrup Jongkhar through Assam and Northeast India, to Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore.

The Gelephu project will see concerted development in three key areas: energy, connectivity, and skills. Hydropower will attract investments through competitive regional pricing. Other energy sources like wind, thermal, and solar will be harnessed. Digital infrastructure development and the international airport in Gelephu will improve connectivity. The project will upskill Bhutanese and bring in foreign skilled workers.
