Visit to Jogighopa, Assam

His Majesty The King, currently visiting Gelephu, made a special trip to Jogighopa in Assam, where he visited the site of an International Multimodal Logistics Park under construction. He was accompanied by Assam Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah and the Chief Secretary of Assam, Dr Ravi Kota. His Majesty also took the opportunity to tour the nearby Inland Water Transport port.

The International Multimodal Logistics Park being built in Jogighopa, Assam, is expected to enhance trade and connectivity between Bhutan, India, and Bangladesh.

His Majesty also visited the Inland Water Transport Terminal at Jogighopa, which is set to further enhance the connectivity between Bhutan, India and Bangladesh.

Inspection of Border Infrastructure

During his time in Gelephu, His Majesty visited the integrated check post that is currently being built at the Bhutan–India border.

Earlier, His Majesty granted an Audience to officials from the Sarpang and Zhemgang Dzongkhags, as well as representatives from the business community in Gelephu.

Reaffirming a Shared Vision for Gelephu

His Majesty also engaged with the people of Gelephu, reinforcing a shared vision for the future of the region. In light of the upcoming Gelephu International Airport, His Majesty assured the public that while transformation is inevitable, the wellbeing of the people will always remain a priority. The broader development of the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) will be guided by smart, inclusive solutions designed to benefit everyone.

Groundbreaking Ceremony for Guru Nangsid Zilnon Lhakhang

His Majesty also graced the Salhang Tendrel (groundbreaking) ceremony for the Guru Nangsid Zilnon Lhakhang in Chokhorling, Gelephu. Situated at the heart of the future GMC, the Lhakhang is being built under His Majesty’s personal initiative. It is dedicated to Guru Nangsid Zilnon, a powerful manifestation of Guru Rinpoche known for dispelling obstacles. The construction of the Lhakhang is intended to bless the city’s beginning and to bring enduring benefits to Bhutan, its people, and all sentient beings.

The temple will be modelled after the sacred Kurjey Lhakhang in Bumthang, which has played a pivotal role in protecting Bhutan during key moments in the nation’s history.
