Paro FC reclaimed its champion title for BoB Bhutan Premier League 2021

Bank of Bhutan (BoB) Bhutan Premier League 2021, previously known as Bhutan Premier League (BPL), the top football tournament in Bhutan concluded this afternoon with Paro Football Club reclaiming its champion title.

A total of 10 teams competed in this season compared to 8 teams in the previous season. Gelephu, GOMO and Druk Lhayul are the new teams joining the league this season.

The final match between Paro Football Club and Thimphu City, the defending champion, was held at Woochu Sports Arena this afternoon. The match ended with a draw of 1-1, resulting in Paro FC bagging the champion title with 45 points. Thimphu City is the first runner-up with 43 points, and Transport United FC is the second runner-up with 41 points.

This is Paro FC's second victory in the national league. Paro FC won its first champion title in the premier league in 2019 but did not manage to defend its title last season.

"Last year's defeat helped us to be a lot more prepared for this season. We learnt from the setbacks and it gave us the psychological boost and drive to work even harder to win back the championship title. Previously we were more reliant on international players but we suffered a loss when the pandemic happened and we couldn't bring in the talents. However, for this season, we were more strategic in our decision with the signing of new Bhutanese players," said Paro FC's Technical Director and Head Coach, Puspalal Sharma.

The victory is the result of excellent pre-season preparation and support of many stakeholders including the board members, sponsors, coaches, administrators and of course, hard work of the players. Paro FC introduced specific regimen for the players so that they can remain physically strong, gain some muscle mass and enhance their fitness.

"It feels really good to win the league after a whole year of hard work," continued Puspalal.
